Article I - NAME
The name of this golf society shall be the Old Crown Golf Society.
Article II - PURPOSE
FIRST: To stimulate interest in golf for the Old Crown Golf Society by bringing together a group of golfers desirous of forming a golfing organisation.
SECOND: To promote and foster among the members a closer bond and fraternity for their joint and mutual benefit, and to promote and conserve the true spirit of the game of golf as embodied in its ancient and honourable traditions.
THIRD: To encourage conformance to the Rules of Golf by creating a representative authority.
FOURTH: To maintain a uniform system of handicapping as set fourth by the English Golf Union and issue a handicap index to each of its members.
Clause 23.7 of the CONGU UHS states that “in exceptional circumstances the Handicap Committee may adjust the handicap of a player in the period between Annual Reviews if there is compelling evidence that his Exact Handicap does not reflect his current playing ability”
FIFTH: To provide an authoritative body to govern and conduct Society competitions and functions.
Article III - MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Membership shall be available to all males over 18 years of age. There shall be at least 10 members with a maximum membership of 35.
Section 2. Memberships in the Society are individual and non-transferable.
Section 3. Membership confers no special privileges in connection with any golf course or the Old Crown public house
Section 4. Memberships in the society are for a calendar year only, with all memberships expiring on February 28th.
Section 5. The fiscal year for the society will be January 1st through December 31st.
Section 6. Each new candidate for membership shall be proposed seconded by two active members. The committee shall act upon each proposal by vote.
Section 7. The committee may confer honorary membership upon those whom they feel heve contributed to the advancement of the society. The unanimous affirmative vote of the committee shall be required to approve such action.
Section 8.Golf course standards and local rules, Golf clubs maintain dress codes and standards while using their facilities, all members of the Old Crown Golf Society will abide and respect the local/rules while at the venue, which may be the following
· observing dress code (if you are not properly dressed some golf clubs will not let you on the course)
· not using mobile phones in the club house or on the course (other than in a emergency)
· keeping trolleys off tees and greens
· avoiding slow play at all times
Section 9. Etiquette is an internal and inextricable part of the game, which has come to define golf’s values worldwide. It is a series of guidelines that exist to show other players, whether through divot repair or awareness of your shadow, a degree of fairness which you would expect to receive in return.in terms of golf’s environment, etiquette is about showing respect for the course on which you are playing and the work that has been put into create it. It’s about making sure that the game is played safely and that others on the course are able to enjoy the round as much as you.
The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players, care for the course and to abide by the rules of the course
Section 10. In the event that any member of the society shall commit any act which reflects discredit or disrepute thereon or shall refuse or neglect to comply with the rules and regulations adopted by the committee or duly appointed officers, such member shall be subject to suspension or expulsion after written notice and the right to be heard, by a vote of the committee at any regular or special meeting.
Section 11. The annual meeting of the Old Crown Golf Society shall be held after the last competition of the season. The committee shall provide for the holding of such meetings as may be deemed necessary or desirable, and they shall call special meetings as required.
Section 12. A legal quorum at any meeting shall be 20% of the members present or by proxy. Each member having one vote.
Section 13. All membership fees and dues shall be established by the committee from time to time in such amounts as they deem to be adequate to operate and maintain the society. Members shall be liable for dues until their resignation has been received and accepted. All monies collected shall accrue to the benefit of the membership.
Article IV - COMMITTEE
Section 1. The committee shall consist of six members of the Old Crown Golf Society and they shall exercise all powers of management of the society not specifically excepted by these By-Laws. The committee may include personnel from a company associated with the society.
Section 2. Nominees for any vacancies on the committee can be proposed at the annual meeting.
Section 3. Voting shall be by ballot and those names receiving the greatest number of votes cast shall be declared to be elected.
Section 4. The committee shall meet at such times and places as they select and a majority of the committee shall constitute a quorum at any meeting.
Section 5. In case of any vacancy through death, resignation, disqualification or other cause, the remaining members even though less than a quorum, may elect a successor by majority vote to hold office for the unexpired term of the member whose place shall be vacant.
Section 6. The officers shall consist of president, secretary/treasurer, competition secretary, captain, vice-captain and social secretary.
Article VI - AMENDMENTS to BY-LAWS
Section 1. The committee shall have the power to repeal or amend any of these By-Laws provided that such action shall not be effective until approved by a majority vote of the members of the Old Crown Golf Society at a meeting held with the provisions contained herein. Old Crown Golf Society has been a trusted golf society since 1995. We started as a small group of friends and have since grown into friendly and welcoming society with players from all walks of life and backgrounds.
